Is it true about the new pharmacy technician law being passed on july 1st?
Angie asked the question:
I’ve been hearing around that a new pharmacy technician law is being passed, requiring pharm techs to have to have a degree in order to work, due to drug thefts, serious accidents and chain employers working regular cashiers and such in the pharmacy without prior training?
I have recently been certified by the PTCB as a pharmacy and have been having such a hard time looking for work, and was told that that law was the reason I was having such a hard time. Some clarification would be awesome. In the meantime, I’ll be researching.

There’s some federal law in the works. However, all professions have historically been regulated by the states. NABP is recording on standardized language for requiring formal education for techs for states to add to their practice acts. I don’t know where it is at. Keep an eye on the pharmacy magazines, and if it passes, there will be an article.
The required education would be a certificate or an associates.
In my state, to work the cash register at the pharmacy, you must be a pharm tech.
You’re having problems finding a job because there is a surplus of techs.
