You need to sit down with your counselor at the college. If you are a freshman, I’m sure you are going to be taking your core classes (math, science, psych, soc.)
Your major classes will be your electives for now. Later on you will start specializing
UCLA does not have a pharm program, but they do offer most of the courses you will need to qualify for pharmacy school.
Pre-pharm requirements are very similar to pre-med requirements. However pharm schools are much less uniform in their admissions criteria than med schools. This I found to be a complete pain in my butt because if was a pre-med at Berkeley. Now, masters degree and career later, I have to go back to community college to take more classes to fulfill pharm requisities.
Here’s what you need to cover most PharmD programs:
1 year English
1 year calculus
1 semester statistics
1 year general biology with lab
1 semester biochem
1 year general chemistry
1 year organic chemistry
1 year physics including Newtonian mechanics, electricity and magnetism with lab
1 year anatomy & physiology with lab (some schools combine the subject, others you take a semester of anatomy, then a semester of mammalian physio)
1 semester microbiology
1 semester of speech (wtf?!? This is not a pre-med requirement!)
And some humanities classes…
Garr. Thinking about this kinda irks me. But yeah, major in whatever, and this list should cover most schools. Reminds me, I have a microbiology class to sign up for…
