Is Anyone a Pharmacy Technician?
kld726 asked the question:
I’m thinking of getting a Pharmacy Tech Certification at The Health Career Training Center in Attleboro,MA, then working for a while at a Hospital to decide if I want to go for Nursing or Radiology. Hospital tuition reimbursement programs are pretty good, so I figure it could be a good in for me. Is there anyone that has done this? Do you like the Pharmacy? How is the pay?

Not me. Sorry, but thanks for the 2 points.
I am Certified Pharmacy tech.
I am not sure about your state, in IL the job market is not good for Pharmacy tech. $8/h or so, if you can find an open position. As for radiology, No no!, most people get contaminated/radiated after all. And caner can really ruin the life. Nursing is a good choice. you may make enough out of it. personal satisfaction is important.
Becoming a Nurse after couple of years of working as a pharmacy tech is a clever idea. Good luck.
I am an old lady and five years ago I got Pharmacy Tech license for NO COST. I just got a job at WalMart as a cashier in the pharmacy and the pharmacy paid for my license–no test. Second, while I worked there I thought about the hospital route for doing it and found out the competition for hospital work in the pharmacy is really high–and out of this world odds against. I was paid the same as a pharmacy tech. as I got paid working phones for a security company.
i have been workin as pharmacy technician at cvs. i kind of like there but i dont have any experience working at hospital. but my advise to you is first go for ptcb exam which is held three times a year because i would help u to get more houly pay; moreover, you would have enough idea about what you would be doin as pharmacy tech in hospital.
yup my sis did take the course…It was good but it had too much memorising and she got confused…But if u like it take it its a really good payed job…Good Luck!!!
I am a nurse, not a pharm tech, but it is a great way to learn about the hospital. They deliver meds to the floors so they see lots of different areas. In nursing school, pharmacology was hard because there are so many drugs to learn and some have the same sounding names. You could learn about the drugs over time and will be ahead of the game if you decide on nursing. I don’t know alot about radiology so I can’t say anything about that. I love nursing and think it’s a great field to get into. Good Luck.
Where I worked Pharmacy techs only make $8.00 to $10.00 A radiologist makes about $20.00 to $32.00 a nurse makes $17.00 to 42.00 an hour depending on what type of nursing degree you have. I guess it may also depend on where you work the wages could be lower or higher.
i took a correspondence class for pharmacy tech, but the math and science was too much for me… not my strong suite… however, i find meds interesting and have quite a bit of knowledge Re. Rx Meds. I think it would be a good field to go into if you are good in math and science. It’s been a while since i looked into any of this as far as financially, but the pay was decent then, and I’m sure it’s got better. Many hospitals do offer Tuition reimbursement, for advancement. Contact the hospitals in your area and make an appointment to see personnel, inform them that you are interested in working at their facility, that you have heard their reputation is top and are looking to work in a hospital where you can advance, let them know you feel you would be a great asset to their company, and ask them what would be the next step in your education to prepare for a career with them. this impresses them and when you go back to apply for a job later on, they will remember that you took the time to ask questions. also remember to write them a letter thanking them for the time they took with you. this also will impress them. the more you WOW them the more they are going to remember you, and that will greatly help your chances for employment and advancement. Good luck to you
I am not a Pharmacy Tech. However, after years of struggling to find a career and trying almost everything my brother went to pharmacy tech school. After graduating top in his class and getting his certification ( basically passing the state exam ) he accepted a position at a local major hospital. That was two years ago. With the experience he has received he is now comtemplating his next career move. Although he is in no big hurry to leave, he just loves his job. He is glad to be in a hospital and not a store pharmacy, he has been able to network at the hospital and this will help him in whatever his next move is.. He is also happy to be in a job that is recession proof. It also lets him look at other hospital jobs like nursing and MMR tech opportunities he would not have at your local Walmart Pharmacy. Good Luck on your journey!!!!
