Pharmacy Clerk?

Elizabeth asked the question:

I am applying for a position as a Pharmacy Clerk at a CVS while I train to become a Pharmacy Technician. I am taking a class in school right now and I have been doing on the job training at this particular CVS and I would like to work there. The pharmacist asked me what my plans were for after high school, my high schools hours and if I was 18 (which I am). I really do enjoy working there and I like all the other employees and they all seem fond of me too. This will be my first job too. So I have three questions.

Do you think they are interested in hiring me?

In my application how much should I ask for as a starting wage?

How likely is it that I will get hired?
Also, I don’t mind working nights or weekends. Besides my school hours (10:30 - 4:00), I’m pretty flexible and I plan on attending a university in the city I live in too.

They are interested in hiring you or they would not be asking you how old you are, etc.

If you are unsure of exactly how much the position pays, you should state $5.85 an hour, or miniumum wage, and they will adjust the pay to what ever the position actually pays; however, you don’t want to ask for too much an hour as it does not look good.

It is extremely likely that you will get hired because you are all ready “working” there and they know your record.

    Good luck!

it really depends on where you live to determine what you will get offered, as well as experience, since this is your first job. i would expect to be offered any where from $7 to $10 per hour. pharm techs don’t make a lot of money any way in that profession. my suggestion to you would be to advance to college and become a PharmD. it is a pharmacist with a medical degree. these positions are plentiful, they pay very well, they afford you a good quality of life (you have a daily 9-5 job - you arent’ on call or have to track patients medical histories like a doc would) and since healthcare is in the forefront of the best jobs now and for the next at least 20 years, you would do very very well for yourself career-wise. good luck!
