Pharmacy Tech Certification?
Ashley asked the question:
I am about to enroll in a short pharmacy tech certification course and I have a few questions. Do employers prefer techs that are already certified over ones that they have to train on the job? I will be getting certified through the PTCB, so is that nation-wide certification, or will I need to certify in more than one state (I live within 5 miles of a state line and want the option to work in either state)? And does the more training you have determine your pay?
Thanks

One Response to “Pharmacy Tech Certification?”
Most of the on the job training for techs have to do with store procedure. A certified or experienced tech might know more about actually working the pharmacy. Most pharmacists prefer to hire the experience tech over the unexperienced tech. If both final techs are unexperienced than maybe certification will play a role.
The certification is national, but licensure is done by the state. Licensure is what allows you to work.
Normally, most pharmacies will pay you more if you are certified. You won’t get paid more if you studied on your own or went to a class. They just care about the certificate.
