What kind of job can I get if I want to become a physical therapist?

RS asked the question:

I’m 18 and I’m in my first year of college. I was wondering if there are any jobs that I would be able to get over the summer and continue with through college. It’s seems pretty limited because I don’t have training in anything other than some classes that I take in college.

I know that it is easy to become a CNA or a pharmacy technician, so is there anything like a PT aide or tech that I would be able to be?

You can work in a hospital physical therapy unit and that would give you training. You will make $100k easily as a PT because of Autism. Pharmacy tech, not so much.

Ask the local hospitals, or even the student health center if they have any PT-related job openings.Even an administrative position where you check in the patients and help them with paperwork will help you get your foot in the door and start establishing a professional network.
Is there a possibility that you can shadow the health center’s therapist next semester? My college roommate was PT major, and she was required to shadow a therapist for a semester as a sophomore.
Shadowing a professional will probably make you more marketable.
If you have special field of interest (post-injury PT, special needs or autism PT, post-cancer PT, etc), consider working for a summer camp for children who have that condition. You won’t get to do any physical therapy, since you’re not certified, but you’ll get invaluable experience.

Yes work at the hospital in physical therapy. Money is good but for me it is more than that. I was paralyzed and had to learn to walk again. I would not have been able to do that if it was not for my physical therapist. God bless him!!!

Yes, you can become a physical therapy technician/aide. It doesn’t pay a whole lot, but it will count towards your observation hours that are required to get IN to the program and you’ll get some exposure to the clinic. Job responsiblities will vary between clerical and light housekeeping to assisting the therapists.

    No formal experience is required.
