Are there any jobs involving pharmaceuticals without becoming an actual pharmacist?

Megbee asked the question:

Hello,
I’m interested in a career in the pharmaceutical industry, but I’m already a college student and a biology major. I do not want to change schools or majors, and I do not want to become a full-fledged pharmacist (too much school, haha). I was wondering what kind of training I would need in order to do something involving pharmacy. I think a bachelor’s in biology will help me alot, but I want to concentrate on this area mostly.

Does anyone have any advice?
I’m looking more into working with the actual drugs and trying to stay away from business/marketing.

I’m not sure what the education requirement is, but you could go into pharmaceutical research.

You might want to look into what requirements there are for pharmacy techs, if dispensing medicine is what you want to do. If you’re interested in how meds work in the body or what they change in the brain, then more biology and some pharmaceutical classes are in order.

Sales Rep. GREAT $$$ and the biology degree will help a lot. Companies love that on you rresume.

Ask your school counselor what classes would tie into your bachelors in biology but would also help you to become certified as a Pharmacist Aide. I’m sure you could fit it in easily…

You might also want to ask about getting into drug research and development. I’m sure your bachelor’s in biology would go a long way in getting you into that field.

Either way, I would strongly recommend going to your counselor as they know the curriculum better than any of us here :)

MARKETING! How else do you think the drug companies sell to people, remember all those ads for Ambien, Lunesta, etc….
There’s money to be made in making people believe they’re sick… but seriously, marketing drugs is a good career choice.

If u really want this, then i suggest u that bachelor’s degree in chemistry will help u more, bcz i m a pharm-D student n i know that in pharmaceuticals, chemists are involved in quality control n they enjoy a nice career as chemist in pharmaceuticals.
