Pharmacy School?

Drazen B asked the question:

I have a few questions regarding pharmacy school in general:

If I were to chose to go to a nearby UC such as Riverside or Santa Cruz, and maintain my GPA above 3.7 and show an exemplary record, could I then transfer to a pharmacy program such as USC School of Pharmacy after two years in the UC where I would begin my training? Would the same apply for state schools such as SDSU?

and,

Ive heard that retail chains will provide substantial financial assistance if a pharmacy student pledges to work for them upon school completion. ( is this true? )

I’m not sure about your first question but the second is true. My brother receives scholarship money every year from CVS and has agreed to work for them after he graduates. He is also getting a nice starting salary and a signing bonus. Well worth looking into!!

In California, you need a bachelors to be competitive. You just won’t get it without it. The chains might give you $3-5k per year is you agree to work for them for a certain number of years after graduating.

It is possible to take all your prereqs in 2 years, but u are going to have to cram in a high number of units each semester to meet the requirements. A more reasonable approach is to do all you prereqs in 3 years then apply to pharmacy school. Whether it is a UC or a state school those prereqs still have to be fulfilled. Now a days though it is near impossible to get in without having completed a BS degree. Retail chains will provide you with a small amount of money to help you through pharmacy school, but you must sign a contract that you wills tay with them for a few years which in my opinion is a horrible way to go. You’re trapped with a company that you might hate and once you get out of pharmacy school the money they are giving you per year while u are in school is considered chump change.
